The Legend

The story goes that in 1977, the Cowboy Steak House opened and Richard Ferris quickly became one of its favorite patrons. After the restaurant had been in business but a few months, Richard says to Lorrie, “We’re buying the Steak House.” Lorrie replied, “We don’t know anything about running a restaurant”. Two months later, they owned the place “lock, stock, barrel … and staff!” Originally located at 506 Junction Highway, Richard and Lorrie Ferris built the Legend, the RLF brand, and the reputation that’s now Kerrville’s Cowboy Steak House.

Inside the restaurant

Bustin’ at the seams, the Ferris family decided to build a new restaurant ‘their way’. In 1993 construction began at it’s current location closer to Kerrville’s downtown featuring beautiful dining areas, party rooms, a large ol’ fashioned Bar area with it’s own “Liar’s Pit”, and its signature mesquite broiling grill right out in front. In 1994, a restaurant unique anywhere in the Texas Hill Country opened its doors and took upscale, yet casual dining in a different direction.

The entire Ferris family has been engaged with the restaurant’s development and history over the years with Grandpa, Uncle Pete, and Richard and Lorrie’s kids: Lori, Linda, and David learning the trade as soon as they could reach the grill. Linda manages the day-to-day operations, and over the years, the restaurant has served as a place where many considered themselves extended family. That family tradition (whether by Ferris name or invitation) continues to this day.

On behalf of the Ferris family…

“We welcome you to our restaurant, our food and fun, and our family.”
